Today I’m going to review the book I finished today – Ruthless by Esther Krogdahl.
My first thoughts after reading the blurb were not positive, to be honest. Very blah sounding, and I’m not a huge fan of the paranormal stuff. Basic summary – the main character, a young and successful business woman called Ruth Wroth is in a terrible accident, and then fired from her job through no fault of her own. She is then hired under mysterious circumstances by a company that has more to it than it seems. When the blurb makes you cringe, it’s not a good sign.
Lots of time spent discussing her outfits. I get it – she dresses well, she has nice shoes, stop talking about them! Pretty Mary Sue-ish main character, as well as a very slow start. I wouldn’t say this book was awful, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. That being said, there were some pretty interesting twists, it did get better towards the end. But then it finished.
I think this book would work well as the start of a longer novel, but on it’s own it’s somewhat lacking. Supposedly it’s a trilogy. I may have to read the other books to see if it improves any. Not too fussed if I don’t find out, if I’m honest.
TL;DR not worth it.
